H.O.T,SHINHWA and DBSK

(This is for Club H.O.T, Cassies, and anyone in a Kpop fandom/fan club who is interested.)
So after reading a very enlightening post about SM Entertainment, H.O.T, and DBSK I made a chart with some interesting comparisons.  The post talked about how H.O.T and DBSK were so similar, how SM made DBSK as a “H.O.T 2.0”.  Not like how Shinhwa was a group made from the mistakes of H.O.T, but as an actual second H.O.T.
  1. First there is the fact that both groups have 5 members.  But there is also the roles of the members.   The post said:
—Silently leading the group with wit and talent, YoungWoong JaeJoong.
    He is like Moon HeeJun.
—Leader in dance, with the aura of a tough guy, but sometimes very cute, UKnow YunHo.
    He is like Jang WooHyuk.
—Lived in the states, and able to speak English, very charismatic and outgoing, Micky YooChun.
    He is like Tony.
—With looks that can be looked as almost feminine, and the image where you want to take care of him, ChoiKang ChangMin.
    He is like KangTa.
—Looks that can be looked as average, but the type of person that the more you see the more you like, Xiah JunSu.
    He is like Lee JaeWon.
  2. H.O.T was the big jump into the current Kpop music industry, without H.O.T there would be none of these new bands or the current pop cultural phenomenon.  They were an experiment that worked.  H.O.T set the bar for all the other bands that came after them.
On that same note, DBSK is considered the climax of Kpop.  DBSK is probably the biggest name in Kpop, even if many of the Kpop newbies have no clue about them.  Many new bands say they want to be the next DBSK, and (I think) until Shinhwa’s comeback this year, who many of the DBSK generation groups want to be like, DBSK had one of the most striven for popularities.
  3. Next is the fan clubs.  H.O.T’s fan club (Club H.O.T) was one of the first and set records for the number of fans and other things.  And then DBSK’s fan club (Cassiopeia) is in the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest fan club ever.  They are also similar in how the fans care about their group.
  4. Now we get to the part that I thought was REALLY INTERESTING!  The break ups of both bands.  Both bands made it to 5 years before they broke up.  And both bands had 3 members leave, while 2 stayed with SM.
When H.O.T broke up Jang WooHyuk, Tony, and Lee JaeWon left and started a new band called JTL.  And JaeJoong, YooChun, and JunSu left and are now called JYJ.  Both has a similar break up and the new bands that formed were initials of the members’ names.
The only real difference is that KangTa and Moon HeeJun went solo, while ChangMin and YunHo are still together.
  5. Along with how the groups broke up, is how they new groups under new management companies were treated.  Both JTL and JYJ are baned from performing on any shows, they can’t promote anything on TV, and rumors of SM going to stations/people and threatening to sue/make trouble if they let the groups on.
For JTL it took them around 2 years before they could perform and promote like every other group.  As for JYJ its been close to 2 years as well, but it doesn’t seem like they’ll be performing on TV anytime soon (as of what I’ve last heard).
  6. In comparison to JTL and JYJ, the treatment of the members who stayed is also very similar.  They seem like Christmas left-overs that no one wants because they’ve had enough of them over the last few days.  SM gives them something to do, off in a little corner and not to be thought about  (With KangTa being the exception).
For Moon HeeJun, he got an album out of SM before they gave him the cold-shoulder and left him to fend for himself.  HeeJun pretty much had to fork over the costs of the albums, photo-shoots, and promotions from his pocket, while SM pocketed the profits from him.
As for HoMin, yes they had a good and pretty successful comeback.  But since then SM has tossed them off into Japan where another company looks after them.  I’m a big fan of Before You Go, Duet, and I Don’t Know, but a majority of the rest of their comebacks weren’t very strong.  I mean that concept for Keep Your Head Down, really?!  The makeup looked like they were in a fight and all the sheet-metal they wore!  And the song, “Funny Honey Bunny” or what ever its called…To me that song didn’t sound like something worth of them.
This might be new for some of you, and for others this is something you’ve also thought about.
It’s not too interesting how DBSK was made as a copy of H.O.T, but the really interesting part is how they’ve ended up.  All I can really hope for is that DBSK (HoMin + JYJ) don’t end up like H.O.T, with none of the members keeping in touch for years.  But how things are going, it seems like HoMin and JYJ might remain separated, if not the members in them at least.

SUPER LONG, but really interesting. Even if some of these things aren’t true, I believe a lot of is relatively true.
THIS WAS POSTED IN 2006! I didn’t know there were already rumors about SM mistreating their artists before the whole lawsuit!!

source: SJ:forever
“Okay - here’s how the whole story goes… Lee Soo Man is the head producer - he’s basically in charge of everything that goes on in SM… (SM used to stand for Soo Man but it’s something else now..I forget…Star something…) He’s like..completely horrible!

I mean, personally, I have nothing against SM the label, it’s more like..the people who run it.

There’s a saying in Korea that states: “If you don’t make it with SM then you can’t make it anywhere.” It’s actually half true. The reason Shinhwa broke away from SM is that they couldn’t stand not being able to participate in recording their album (like writing songs, being more active in the whole process, not being controlled), and the only reason why they’re still doing fine is that their fanbase is HUGE and the fans are VERY supportive of their split from SM. Shinhwa was fed up with their songs being controlled, and fed up with being hit and bullied by SM managers. -__-;;

As for HOT not getting back together, it’s really crappy. Moon HeeJun from HOT went solo, as you may know, and after his first album, they withdrew funding from him and decided to focus on the “hotter, newer stars” like DBSK and BoA. Basically, he was left on the back burner and left to fend for himself. He released his later albums from money in his own pocket and donations from loyal fans. Awww…

Basically, when you get old/get less popular in SM, they just leave you to rot. They’ll discard you like an old sock.

SM controls your life - when you sign on, you’re basically signing away your soul. When DBSK was first formed, Soo Man gave the order to put the boys on a water diet (they basically starved the boys to the extreme) to make their faces slimmer so that they look better in pictures. They often try to get artists to get plastic surgery in order to boost their appearances. No joke. SM goes for looks first, then talent. (They got lucky with DBSK - looks AND talent.)

Rumor has it (and I’m pretty sure it’s been confirmed, at least, according to my sources…) that SM hits/beats their artists whenever they make a mistake, and often they are driven to sickness by exhaustion and fatigue. Remember when Micky/Yoochun was in the hospital with apendicitis? Yah..there you go…

The probably only exception to the abuse is BoA, SM’s favored artist, of whom I’ve heard indirectly from her coordinators that she’s really stuck-up and and really bossy. Hence, I do not like her (I never did.) - sorry BoA fans! (By all means keep liking her if you do!)

When the whole scare that DBSK was going to be rotated came around (meaning winter-spring time this year), did you see the members cry at the perf.s and such? Well, I believe they were screamed at, then hit around, and they were banned from going to any press conferences. They were split up (put into different rooms and such) and they weren’t allowed to discuss anything regarding it. I believe if they were going to rotate, they had announced that Jaejoong and Yoochun would be the first to leave because they “cause so much trouble”.

If the fans did not stage the boycott of SM goods, I believe they really would have rotated DBSK. Plus the fact that Changmin is still a minor and their parents can still sue SM under their contract.

So…if SM is so horrible..why would you sign on under it?

Because, it gives you FAME. SM is RUTHLESS when it comes to making it to the top, and you are almost guaranteed some sort of fame. Secondly, THEY PAY FOR YOUR COLLEGE. They give you all these opportunities that are probably pretty good.

…I believe (I remember reading this) an average SM group like DBSK makes around 3 CENTS or something per album/single they sell. That split 5 ways is less than 1 cent per member. Yah - in the end, it may add up, but really, SM just sucks out the profit. It’s a money making machine in the entertainment business. SOO MAN TAKES MOST OF THE PROFITS HIMSELF - HE IS LIKE…ONE OF THE RICHEST MEN IN KOREA.

Basically…Lee Soo Man is running this company that controls everything that goes on in their artists’ lives. Although he’s NOT THE PRESIDENT, he has the MOST POWER. Don’t ask me how that works…I’m not sure… -__-;;; Even the president resigned this year due to everything that’s been going on. Basically…I CAN’T STAND LEE SOO MAN. He deserves…really bad things to happen to him. -__-;;;

QUOTE
1. what do you mean by being rotated?? do you mean breaking them up??
What happened was…if you look at other SM groups, there usually is one or two lead singer(s) and the rest are rappers (those who can’t sing as well but look pretty) or back-up singers. When DBSK was formed, they put 5 would-be “lead singers” (like - if they were all in different groups, they would all be the lead singers) together, and of course, it was very successful. HOWEVER - here’s where the rotation part comes in. When SM was really gunning for their girl group SES (remember them? with Shoo, Eugene, and Bada), SM took them to Japan and China to gain more ground in the Asian music industry. But what happened was that when they left Korea, a new girl group was debuted under another company…you probably have heard of them too…FINKL (with Hyori, etc.) After the whole fiasco of FinkL becoming very popular in Korea and sharing SES’s level of success (SES fans shifted to FinkL for the time being when they went to Japan and China), SM vowed to never have that happen again - to always have their aritsts be #1 in Korea. So what did they do? They had this crazy idea to make DBSK a rotating group. That means when DBSK goes to Japan/China/other places, one or two members will be taken out to work with other groups/on solo projects in Korea, as to maintain DBSK popularity in Korea and eliminate rival groups. The original 5 would basically not perform with each other anymore - there would be like 3 or so originals, and 2 or so rotated members. The original members would all be rotated in and out in between solo projects and other group projects. Crazy - yes I know - but true. SM is one monopoly on the Korean music market.

2. what do they mean about Hiro and Micky causing trouble?? are they rebellious towards the company?? and if so, who wouldn’t be…
Jaejoong/Hero/Hiro: They have fanmeetings/signings yah? Well, apparently there were instances where there were LONG lines to meet DBSK. There were instances where there are 5 separate lines - one for each member. Well, one time, there was NO ONE in JAEJOONG’S LINE (T_T awww…I so would have gone in that line if I saw that!) and the managers who were coordinating the event were like..to fans in the other lines.. “do you want to get into this line?” and they would be like…NO! (GOSH! THEY’RE SO MEAN/RUDE! T_T) And it made Jaejoong really sad. The other members encouraged fans to get into Jaejoong’s line, but apparently it didn’t work. SM was beginning to believe Jaejoong was getting less popular, so they wanted him to work on other projects first - as a result.

Yoochun/Micky: …I don’t know if you noticed this, but around the time they were announcing the rotation, he began to cry/breaking down during performances (which, I heard, he got hit for T_T) and in SM’s words… “causing trouble”. Therefore, they wanted to remove him from DBSK first also.

Yes - I agree - I would be rebellious too..except..you get punished for doing so…like..being starved and getting beaten. -___-;;

3. by the way how did Shinhwa manage to get out of SM??
What happened was…Shinhwa decided to switch entertainment companies because they had enough with SM’s controlling behavior (this was like..unheard of! Sm doesn’t allow their artists to switch companies freely, especially if they are as popular as Shinhwa… Shinhwa = money in SM’s eyes). They decided to move to Good! Entertainment, a brand new company with better management. SM couldn’t FORCE them to stay, because Shinhwa’s contracts had expired anyways (SM was seeking to renew, Shinhwa was seeking to move companies ASAP!). So, what did SM do? They sued Shinhwa for a bunch of stuff, and they claimed that if Shinhwa was to move companies, they can’t use the name SHINHWA because of copyright issues. Therefore, there was a battle so to speak in court, and Shinhwa ended up winning. They retained their trademark name and moved to Good! Entertainment. Most artists who move struggle because SM makes it their duty to make sure they are crushed by SM artists. But knowing Shinhwa, they already had a HUGE fanbase that was more than supportive of the move. They staged a movement where when their 7th album came out this past year, NO ONE was to post downloads in order to encourage people to buy it, and many fans bought more than one copy of it. =)

Side note: I’d say SM’s biggest “rival” company is YG Entertainment - which manages artists such as Se7en, 1TYM, Taebin, etc. I dunno - just my opinion. Hence, the whole…Se7en’s in Japan! DBSK must be in Japan too! thing…

THEN It was kimtaitai’s message on Abaka that really got me she wrote:
QUOTE
Hi~ I’m a current member of clubH.O.T,
and am a fan of the now broken up group, H.O.T. ^^

These days the group DBSK have been performing a lot
and have caught my attention.
Not only that, I heard that one of the DBSK members was a
very big male fan of H.O.T., and thats how I first started to
learn more about DBSK

As I watch the way they act and their performance,
I couldn’t help but to think that they are very simliar
to H.O.T when they first started

H.O.T is seriously the god’s to our generation,
so for people that were born around 82, 83, etc.
No one probably understand what they meant to us…

After Seotaiji and boys broke up, H.O.T. saved the
kpop music scene that was completely dying out.

All the teenagers were pulled into H.O.T.,
and within a year of their debut they received the top music award.
Out of all the major awards that H.O.T received, there must be awards
from at least 10 different music/television companies

When I see DBSK right now, the past H.O.T. fills my mind.
I was a freshman in high school when H.O.T. first debuted.
Now I am 22, and even today, when I go to performances or
concerts, I am looked as a young girl ^^

I heard that the majority of DBSK fans are junior high students,
and although many people say that they are young fans,
we were exactly like that too.

Whenever people saw us they called us H.O.T fanatics.
But then what about now? Even after 8-9 years
we are still here watching over them.

We hope that all the DBSK fans follow in our footsteps ^^

Liking H.O.T. for about 9 years,
I would like to give a little heads up and warnings about the company SM

I am someone that had a voice within the H.O.T fan club.

So I know a little more about the company SM, than most fans or normal people

At this moment, many H.O.T. fans have ventured out ^^
There are some that have become stars, others that became famous peoples’ coordis,
and even some that have been hired into SM

Through these people we have learned that,
what we believed to be unfair treatment by SM, in reality, was very much true

SM claimed that the 2nd H.O.T. was blackbeat, but after their failure
they tried once again, and that group is DBSK

Silently leading the group with wit and talent, YoungWoong JaeJoong.
He is like MoonHeeJun.

Leader in dance, with the aura of a tough guy, but sometimes very cute, UKnowYunHo.
He is like JangWooHyuk.

Lived in the states, and able to speak English, very charismatic and outgoing, MickyYooChun.
He is like Tony.

With looks that can be looked as almost femine, and the image where you want to take care of him, ChoiKangChangMin.
He is like Kangta.

Looks that can be looked as average, but the type of person that the more you see the more you like, XiahJunSu.
He is like LeeJaeWon.

Two group that really have a lot in common, DBSK and H.O.T.
Maybe that’s why, but we H.O.T. fans are genuinely scared that
the DBSK fans will have to face the hurt and dissapointing ordeals we had to go through.
Especially because all of you are so young.

Cassiopia fans…

SM is honestly a dangerous place.
As you like DBSK more I am sure that your hatred for SM will only grow

The first time H.O.T. began to get battered by LeeSooMan was during the beginning of their 3rd album
I’m not sure if you heard their 2nd album song, “Heng Bok”
That is the song H.O.T. received the DaeSang award,
and the album after that for every little mistake, they were hurt.

At that time, I believed that no matter what, it was merely just rumors
Slowly, everything I believed were rumors, were slowly turning into realities

By any chance do you know of Andy of ShinHwa’s incident?
For awhile he was on stage wearing a mask wasnt he?
SM said some unbelievable stuff saying that he ran into something
or that JunJin fell while taking a shower.

Everyone continously told us different thigns.
The important factor is that they ran into something or fell,
but why was only his mouth hurt? How come there were no signs of anything near their forehead or nose or any other facial part?

A few days before, Andy went into the SM building, and when he came out
he was wearing a mask, which many fans noticed.
Honestly, at that time I didn’t believe it.

After JTL left SM, even after they released their album,
they weren’t able to properly perform for a good 2 years.

Their schedules continously got mysteriously cancelled,
and on cable t.v. their music video was not even showed ONCE.

That wast the famous SM-JTL boycott.
Boycott…

SM went to every television company and threatened that
in the case they brought JTL onto their broadcasting list, SM would pull out all their singers from that company

Many fans called JTL’s company “YeJun Media” and asked what was happening,
but even from there they did not know.

This is a famous event,
It was when MoonHeeJun’s 2nd album was supposed to come out

Fans were sleeping in front of HeeJun’s house,
when HeeJun’s mother came out and began to cry like no tomorrow.

She was begging to the fans to save HeeJun…
“Please save my HeeJun…”

HeeJun’s first album sold 600,000 copies.
But SM said, “Merely 600,000?!”

They said they didn’t want to invest in his 2nd album.
So for HeeJun’s 2nd album, his music video, and jacket pictures…
he poured out his own money and savings.

Everyone.
Buy their album. That is helping DBSk.

Whenever H.O.T albums came out, we fans bought AT LEAST 2 copies.
That’s the only reason whenever a new album came out they were able to surpass 1 million album sales.

And for that fact only…
thats the only reason the members were able to collect a little bit of money.

H.O.T. boys…
for every album they received approximiately 2 cents.

After Boa released her first alubm,
she received 50 cents per album.

For five people if it’s 2 cent, that means its not even a quarter cent per person.

Then you might ask…

“What about the commercials and photo albums, and all the other side things H.O.T did?”

To keep it simple,
the only money H.O.T members make is through album sales.

Any commercials, and any shows, anything,
all that money goes to SM.
So its basically an unjust contract, a slave contract.

We heard that the contract between DBSK and SM is immense,
but thats not always a good thing.

When one leaves SM you must pay a fee that is much higher htan the contract,
and basically its to stop singers from leaving
Not only that they will take out a percentage of one’s profits if one leaves.

Do you think the term “slave contract” came out of nowhere??
DBSK right now…they are probably having a really hard time.

Do you all know this?
The president of SM isn’t LeeSooMan but, KimKyungWook.

To put it in lamen terms…

Although on paper KimKyungWook is the president,
the person that makes all the decisions is LeeSooMan.

The reason,

SM has done a lot of illegal things.
And if those acts are caught, someone needs to be blamed.

So LeeSooMan screws up,
and KimKyungWook takes the blame.

If you look at it KimKyungWoo is a slave too. An SM slave.

H.O.T.’s old manager is currently working for a very famous company.

That person once said that H.O.T. are kids he truely feels sorry for,
and so they were kids that he wanted to save.

That person tried to take H.O.T. out of SM, but got caught by LeeSooMan
and was immediately fired. Right now he is working at SIDUS and is producing the group G.O.D.

That is the reason LeeSooMan hates G.O.D. so much.
So much to the point that any radio show SM singers host,
he makes it clear he doesnt want to hear them putting on G.O.D. songs.

Even though slave contract, unjust contracts are against the law,
LeeSooMan is living quite fine.

He is truely a rich man. Someone with so much money it is unbelievable.
Although he waste a lot of money, he always has more.

We raised SM
and then we were stepped on by SM and died.

All the money that came in from H.O.T was invested into BoA
and all the money they invested in BoA is being currently reearned.

But now H.O.T memebers have encountered so many scars,
and they are slowly being forgotten by people.

Along with Club H.O.T who set records as a fan club.

We all are being forogtten by people.

All of you will get older with DBSK.
We were the same.

We used to say that “we’re aging together,”
and these days those words sound so sad

As time goes feelings will be stronger,
and we sincerely hope that DBSK doesn’t endure the same scars from SM, as H.O.T. had.
Don’t take the same hurt as we did.

Within DBSK, create an awesome fan culture.

With every childless statement, the fan image is slowly ruined.

Become fans that think about what you say,
when announcing you are their fans.

Don’t ever be faltered by any rumors, and always trust the member.
Singers will never betray their fans.

Please don’t do things that they dont like.
You shouldn’t ever make your favorite singer feel disappointedi n you.

If you are going to believe this and that, or just move on to someone else,
then don’t like them from the start.
It will only be scars upon that singer/group.

As you grow older, even if you find a boyfriend
don’t ever forget that you are DBSK fans.

At first it may just be a fantasy for you
but as time passes and as you grow older
you will realize that they mean a lot more to you than you know

In your heart, you will never forget your younger days
when you were their fans…

please make sure it is only memories that you will not regret… “

Why do I feel like Homin are slowly being “left there to rot”? And also, the whole connection between H.O.T and DBSK is something else, right?
I’m so pissed right now >:(

CREDIT TO THE PERSON THAT made this.I dont know who is it.

Personal note:
Reading this i got so sad,i just remembered how much i miss to be a DBSK fan.to see them all 5 of them singing those great songs they used to have.
Because even if i like it or not,i cant forget the fact that few years ago when i was having a hard time,i was alone and bullied by other relatives,DBSK was the best part of my life. When i used to listen to their songs was like listen angels singing to me that everything will be alright sooner or later.I had times when i felt like giving up at fighting for myself but i would always remembered how much they work to get so famous,so many sacrifices,so it made me more stronger.
It was these 5 amazing guy, expecially Jaejoong ssi,the ones that i considered my only friends becuase they were the ones i needed close somehow.
I kept blaming the duo DBSK for not beeing united and stay toghever like SHINHWA did,but i guess things are not that easy as it seems so.
I forgot that the only fault is the damm SM Ent. that i started to hate it to death and the artists they've got.I am amazed that me as a Shinee fan i am seeing them now more like a antifan.I dont pay attention to them anymore just because they are pupets of SM Ent.

I am so thankful that i am a Shinhwa fan as well and proud that they are the only ones that are still alive as a band after so many years.I am a new fan,and i feel sad because i cant recover all those years in which they've been active but i can promise to be there and suport them with buying their material ,in the future, for many many years i pray.
Because i want like my children to grow up with Shinhwa.

And even if i am not a fan of H.O.T i feel so melancholic when i see them on tv sepaprately,Tony on that MNET COUNTDOWN that btw, lately so sucks because of those so many rookies and it makes me think "i miss so much those times in which were real idol groups and real music,i miss seeing on the stage,dbsk,H.O.T and many of the bands that are gone".
Tony even if he is in his middle 30's from what i've heard,he is still so hot,so charming and someone that doesnt know his age would get a shock because he looks so young and cute even next to those kids he presents the show, the guy from ZE:A and another one from God knows which band it was from >_>.

I wish H.O.T would be back and be like Shinhwa are  and of course DBSK,please come back.Dont let that evil man full of influence distroy your dream and our dream that we are your fans, here still suffering in silence.FIGHTING!

I promised myself that from now on i wont buy any SM Ent from any artist of theirs, anything and i will buy only from the artists that indeed need support.

I feel really sorry for those EXO K which is the next target of the label.I dont want to imagine through what those poor guys are passing trhough.nightmare for sure.especially that for sure SM Ent whats to make them now the second DBSK.But they kinda failed the labels expectations. So indeed poor guys.I feel really sorry for them.:(

Life is never nice.

Myself as a Shinhwa creppy adicted in the future

Thinking about the close future.Maybe i will get married, have kids…i am in Korea and i intend to spend the rest of my life in here. For me is the most perfect place on the planet for myself as a person.
I imagine myself though still having the posters of Shinhwa on some wall in the house and trying to get all the original albums.
A big rule in the house ,especially for my children “dont touch the most precious things that has to do with Shinhwa. Not allowed!”
Probably i will end up with a husband that he will hate them because i love them too much. And when my child will ask me:
- Omma, why you choosed dad as a husband?
I will tell my child this story:
- Dear, let me make you understand it better.
When you see something that looks so beautiful and special, you end up not taking your eyes from it.Your heart screams that you want it so badly, but sad you cant get it.And you are aware of that. For example…
Image that you love a pair of sneakers Nike brand.
- Ok…the child mumbles.
- You want those really bad,but you cant afford to buy it.Are way too expencive like you to have them. You will never be able to spend so much money on them,as an unqualified person. You are not the right person for those Nike sneakers.
And what your mom teached you to do when you cant have what you want?
- Trying to find something alike?…the child responds unsure.
- Exactly…You see my point? When you cant get the original,it is ok an imitation as well.
- So you mean dad is a cheap imitation???
- Not really..imitation i guess so …but what can i do?
Haahahahha probably i would sound too horrible to tell that. :P

[EPIC STORIES] Vicious SHCJ and Mischievous Shinhwa

Credit to whoever did this,it is not mine, but i love it so i had to share it.
I love the guys even more after reading it,they are humans indeed and i like idols that act like themself and dont try to be perfect like most of the actual 90% of the idol world that exists now.

This is a story about fans’ encounters with Shinhwa not long after their debut.
1. Once after the recording of a music program, the other singers all zoomed off in their vehicles. There were a group of fans of various singers waiting there at that time, including about 5 Shinhwa fans. Fans of the other singers were upset that they didn’t get to see their idols and started to cry.
At that time Eric’s vehicle drove out and stopped for a while, and then the 5 Shinhwa fans surrounded the vehicle and screamed for Eric to get out, and Eric had no choice but to meekly alight and receive their gifts from them… The crying fans saw this scene and started to laugh instead…
2. There were a couple of fans waiting outside Shinhwa’s dormitory to catch a glimpse of the guys, and were having jajangmyeon (black beanpaste noodles) when they felt drops of water falling on them. They looked up and realised that Eric and Junjin were shooting at them with water guns through the window…
3. There was once when Dongwan got back to the dormitory and saw a fan who had been waiting outside. He asked her, “Shouldn’t you be preparing to take the university entrance exam?” And he ended up lecturing her for 2 hours. The fan cried and never returned to the dormitory again, but years later she said gratefully, it’s all thanks to Dongwan that she managed to make it to the university…
4. Hyesung was going back to the dorm when he saw fans waiting outside (again), and told them, “Dongwan’s coming back soon, you’d better leave quickly…”
5. Once Eric and Dongwan came back to the dorm slightly tipsy and saw fans waiting outside (AGAIN!). Eric shoved a 10-won coin into a fan’s hand and told her, “This is for you, go and buy a house, a car and get a good meal.”
Dongwan said, “That’s not enough..”
After that Dongwan gave the fan a 100-won coin and said, “Take this and buy everything that you want…”

Mar 24, 2011 Happy 13th Anniversary, Shinhwa

Where ever each of you are, I pray you are doing well. SHCJs, this is it. This is the last video I put together for this happy occasion.
It’s a video I made for the fans. There are glitches in the video that I just CANNOT seemto fix no matter what I do. I’m sorry .____. But otherwise, I hope you like it!
To wrap up this epic special week we’ve had, I’m going to write you guys some ShinHwa vs. ShinHwa ChangJo anecdotes to make you guys smile! As you all know, SHCJ is a legend just as much as the boys they support. One of the main reasons is these crazy Shinhwa vs. SHCJ anecdotes.
A note of warning, however.
SHCJ is FAMOUS for being ridiculously blunt, close, mean, honest with, at the same time absolutely terrifyingly proud and protective of Shinhwa. Some of these anecdotes are utterly hilarious and shocking, and mostly UNHEARD OF in most fandoms.  SHCJ is also very well-known for their self-pride; they are arguably more proud of being SHCJ than being fans of Shinhwa.
You guys must also know that Shinhwa is not, was not, and never will be, the stereotypical Kpop idol group. Shinhwa’s famous (infamous? ^^) for being very human, if you know what I mean. They’ve done stupid things in the past, and SHCJs know that pretty well. So like family members, there’s always been a love-hate relationship between Shinhwa and SHCJ. Hence, Shinhwa vs. SHCJ. Some of these stories will be utterly shocking, especially to the younger and newer fans. Even more so to fans from other fandoms. But believe me, this is what makes Shinhwa, Shinhwa, and SHCJ, SHCJ.

1. G.O.D vs. Shinhwa

This is way back in the early 2000s when the Shinhwa members lived together in a dorm close to G.O.D’s dorm. FanGs (Fan G.O.D = G.O.D’s Official Fanclub) wanted to go in front of G.O.D’s dorm but could not do so too easily because of the security guards. So FanGs decided to go into a local super market to pretend to be local residents. It was late at night, but FanGs spotted two tall guys at the supermarket buying tons of snacks and beer. FanGs had no money on them, and when the guys noticed their envious looks, one of them came over offering FanGs some snacks and asked, “Do you still like G.O.D better even though I’m giving you these snacks?” When FanGs told this story to SHCJs, all of SHCJ said, “They should just be good to SHCJ they have -_-; “
2. FanG vs. SHCJ
You guys know how epic fan wars can be, yes? Well, once again, back in the day, FanG and SHCJ got into a fight. SHCJ was the type that tried to solve problems physically, but FanGs supported themselves by the law and legal reasoning. In the end, FanGs won. When G.O.D found out about the fight, they said, “Please don’t fight T_T.“ When Shinhwa found out about the fight, they said, “Did you win? Did you lose? Did you win? AGHHHHHH Why’d you lose???” and scolded SHCJ.
3.  Shinhwa Fan Signing = SHCJ Comedy Audition
Most fans of other fandoms go to fan signings excited and nervous to see their idols and receive their autographs. SHCJs go to Shinhwa fan signings wondering how to entertain Shinhwa and make them laugh. Shinhwa Fan Signings are comedy auditions for any dedicated SHCJ.
4. Shinhwa’s Dorm ≠ Other Idols’ DormsTo most fans of other fandoms, idols’ dorms are places to see a small glimpse of their god-like idols. To SHCJ, Shinhwa’s dorms were:
i. A miserable place when Kim Dong Wan lectured SHCJ for two hours about what they should be doing
with their lives.
ii. Somewhere in the fourth dimension where Eric kept squirting ketchup and water guns to SHCJ.
iii. A place to see the most absurd drinking habits of Shinhwa members.
iv. The place where the fantasy about Shinhwa got shattered.
5. Shinhwa & SHCJ = Best FriendsThe longer you spend time with someone you love, the most honest and blunt you become, yes? If your best friend were wearing a hideous outfit, you wouldn’t hesitate to say, “Girl, that that off,” right? Okay.
So when other idols tell their fans, “I’m very tired these days,” those fans say things like, “I’ll be your bed for you” and “Please go rest.” When Shinhwa told SHCJ that they were tired, SHCJ said, “Go to sleep.” When Shinhwa said again that they were tired, SHCJ said, “I guess age doesn’t lie.”
6. During 8th Album Promotions at Inki GayoA lot SHCJ had spent the night in front of the broadcast studio and were dozing off outside. A whole bunch of bikers came by on their motorcycles and sprayed SHCJ with fire extinguishers, and there were several drunkards who came by and bothered SHCJ. Apparently a SHCJ got in contact with a Shinhwa manager and told him the situation. Shinhwa happened to be practicing nearby and paid several taxi drivers to guard the area around SHCJ by making rounds. Not too long after that, Eric and HyeSung drove around SBS, and it is rumored that HyeSung was taking photos of SHCJ along the way. Because the bikers never came back, four hours later SHCJs were sleeping outside when suddenly they heard, “Shinhwa Changjo, FIGHTING! Junjin, jjang!! Junjin, jjang!! Muahahahahaha” SHCJs recognized the laughter; it was DongWan.

ERIC VS. SHCJ
1. During Eric’s Civil Service Worker Days
A SHCJ was at a subway station buying a ticket when she realized that the man behind the booth was Eric. All she could see was his eyes, but as SHCJ, she recognized him regardless.
She said, “Excuse me?”
Eric, “….”
Fan, “How do I get to BunDang from here?”
Eric, “Oh…go in that direction, and the train the BunDang will be there.”Fan, “Oh, over there?”Eric, “Yes.”Fan, “Thank you, Eric Oppa.”Eric, “…I’m not Eric..”Fan, “Yeah, okay. It was nice meeting you, Eric oppa.”Eric, “………..goodbye, SHCJ.”
2. At Eric’s Fan SigningEric, “What’s your name?”Fan, “Pikachu.”Eric, “Your name~”Fan, “It’s Pikachu – -;”Eric, “^^;;; What’s your name?”Persistent fan, “Pikachu.”
When she checked the autograph later:
“To: Pikachu
From: Raichu”
3. Shinhwa on RadioShinhwa went on a radio program, and when the DJ asked Junjin to pick a number:
Junjin, ” – - – - “
Eric, “Those are the last four digits of his number.”
Shinhwa members, “Why don’t you say the beginning numbers, too?”
Eric, “- – - -”
All: “You can’t say that!”
A little later:
Junjin, “Everyone, if you could please refrain (from calling)”
Eric, “Everyone, the area code is 019.”

MINWOO VS. SHCJ
1. It doesn’t hurt to listen to Bongie
During one winter, the ground was frozen with ice, and fans were chasing MInWoo in his van. Minwoo told them not to run because they might slip and fall. Well, a SHCJ slipped and fell. Bongie said, “See, I told you so! That what you get for not listening to me – -; “
2.  Minwoo FanficsFan: ”Oppa, have you read any of the fanfics about you?”Bongie: ”No, I haven’t read them.”Fan: “Really? Aw, you’re so cool in it…oh well.”Bongie: ”Yeah, I did sound kind of cool in it.”
Ummm….what? XD
3. During the T.O.P DaysSHCJs saw Bongie go in to pracitce. A few hours later, he came back out half asleep with just his boxers. SHCJs said,”Oppa…I think you put on the wrong clothes…” Bongie responded, “This? These are shorts~”SHCJs believed they were shorts, but then DongWan came out saying, “MINWOOOOO!!! YOUR PANTS!!!!!!!”

DONGWAN VS. SHCJ
1. Fan at DongWan’s Hair Shop

A few high school SHCJs skipped class and went to the shop that DongWan was at. When DongWan saw them he said, “You guys skipped class and came here, right?!”  After lecturing and scolding them for a while, Dongwan made the SHCJs do squat jumps and other strenuous exercises as punishment.

2. DongWan’s Love for SHCJ
When DongWan spotted SHCJ in front of Shinhwa’s dorm, he stayed with them and lectured them for two hours about how important school and how they should be good to their parents, etc., etc. He went as far as getting one of the SHCJ’s parent’s phone number and told the parent about what their child was doing. When the parent didn’t seem to care DongWan said, “Fine. Let’s just play.” Together they played hide-and-seek, and he bought them ice cream. After that, whenever SHCJs saw DongWan coming their way, they were busy trying to find places to hide, but DongWan, “How cute. But I can still see all of you~” After a while, even HyeSung started telling SHCJ, “DongWan’s coming soon. Hide!”
3. DongWan is a scary netizenA few days before Valentine’s Day, DongWan wrote on his blog, “I don’t like chocolate. Please don’t get me any.” SHCJ saw this and all responded somewhere along the lines of, “…we weren’t planning to get you any anyway..” A few days later DongWan posted, “Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. I hope it rains!”
4. Memorable FanA SHCJ wanted to be remembered by Shinhwa so instead of getting their autographs, she gave them her autograph. When that SHCJ met DongWan and started signing, DongWan said, “I already got one ^^;” When she met HyeSung and tried to sign, HyeSung said, “I already have six at home ^^”
5. DongWan’s Value of SHCJ’s EducationWhen a SHCJ showed up at DongWan’s fan singing saying, “I was number one of my class! I did a good job, right? Could you pat my head for me?” DongWan took a look at the report card and said, “Come back when you’re valedictorian of your entire school.”

HYESUNG VS. SHCJ
1. At HyeSung’s Fan Signing
Fan: “I’m very sad today.”Syung: “Why?”Fan, “Because I couldn’t go to the bathroom today.”
Syung, “AHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA”
He couldn’t sign autographs for the following five people because he was too busy still laughing.
2. Syung at the super marketA fan met Syung at a store with sweats and slippers on and an ice cream in his hand.
Fan, ”Wow! Is Shin Hye Sung!!”Syung: “I’ll kill you if you saying anything..”Fan:  *too terrified to say anything*Syung:  ”Aw, my ice cream melted because of you! – -”
3. Syung’s Love for Video GamesSHCJs in front of Shinhwa’s dorm saw Syung leaving with his stage clothes and figured he had work. Syung came back an hour later, and SHCJsaid, “You’re coming back from an Internet Cafe, right?”Syung responded, “Don’t go spreading rumors, guys~”
4. Syung’s Other love: HIS CARA SHCJ wanted to be remembered by Syung and wrote “I love you, Oppa” and her number on Syung’s car. That same night, the SHCJ received a phone call from an unknown number. When she picked up, Syung was absolutely infuriated at the other end and said, “I don’t care! Just get your mother on the phone!!!!”
5. At the back alley around Inki GayoSomewhere in the back alley around the Inki Gayo studio, SHCJs spotted Syung in his car. He didn’t have any make-up on and just had his foot stick out of his car. SHCJs thought he was sleeping and one said, “Look! His feet are so ugly~” Then suddenly the foot disappeared and the door was shut. For a long while after that, that SHCJ went around with a placard saying, “I’m sorry I said your feet were ugly T_T”

JUNJIN VS. SHCJ
1. MY CLEMENTINESA SHCJ spotted Junjin on the streets and in her excitement, she ran over and gave him a back hug.
Junjin shouted, “Don’t hug me!!! The clementines are going to get squished!!!”
There were clementines in his backpack ^^
2. SyungJin’s Love for Video GamesSHCJs spotted SyungJin going to an Internet Cafe and followed them. Jin said, “Don’t run.” Syung said, “Don’t run. Walk.”They didn’t tell them not to come

3. Junjin’s Mantra?A SHCJ saw somebody that looked a whole lot like Jin and cautiously asked, “Are you…Junjin?” Jin said, “Don’t act like you know me. Don’t act like you know me. Don’t act like you know.” Out of respected the SHCJ said, “Oh….okay.” The SHCJ walked away without saying anything more,  but JIn kept saying, “Don’t act like you know me. Don’t act like you know me.”
…….um. Okay.

ANDY VS. SHCJ
1.
When SHCJs in front of Shinhwa’s dorm Andy coming back, they started yelling, “OPPPPPPAAAAAA!!!!!” Seeing this, Andy gave each SHCJ a cracker and told them to go home. When they said no, Andy responded, “Psh. Fine, do whatever you want~”
2. At a fan signingFan: “Oppa, can I date you?”Andy: “No, you can’t~”Fan: *super upset*
At the next fan signing, Andy recognized the same SHCJ and asked,
Do you want to go out with me?”Fan: “No -____-”
3. SHCJ to Andy?At a signing, a SHCJ asked what SHCJ was to Andy.
Andy, “……”Fan: “Oppa, your answer~”Andy: “I need to finish signing my autograph before I answer~”Fan: “Oh…okay”After he finished signing, he said with a smile, “My life.”
How was that guys? Did you laugh? Did you space out in shock? Did you fall off your chair as you died of laughter? Well, I hope you did at some point. I would just like to end this special epic post (that took me forever to compile) with a reminder to SHCJ and a notice to other fans.
The idols we lose sleep over, fight over, drool over, cry over, dream about, write about, spaz about, talk about, and want with all our hearts are souls are humans before they are anything else. I hope this anecdote compilation proved that to you all. Yes, some of the stories may be disappointing, and some may upset you guys. But please remember that Shinhwa likes to drink a lot like every other Korean male. Shinhwa likes to play video games like any other guy. Shinhwa has weird quirks like every other human.
SHCJ is certainly legendary among Kpop fandoms, and with good reason. One of those reasons is the fact that they were straight up terrifying and aggressive at times. They did things at concerts and venues that embarrassed other SHCJs and Shinhwa, too. But SHCJ also consists of humans. Particularly hormonal fangirls at the peak of Shinhwa’s popularity. But like Shinhwa, they too have matured over the past 13 years.
I put these anecdotes altogether in one place not only to entertain you all and put you guys in a state of nostalgia, but to remind every single one of you reading (who may or may not be SHCJ) that we must remember that there’s always a give and take in any relationship. There are always fights and ruts that each side hits. It’s normal. It’s also rumored that most of the Shinhwa’s Antifan Cafe consists of SHCJ themselves. Why?
Because SHCJ knows Shinhwa the best.
The good, and the bad.
If there’s anything I want for all the dedicated fandoms out there, I would hope that they love their biases and idols for who they are.
